Charl du Plessis

Charl du Plessis once took a grand piano to the top of Table Mountain, an extravagant image for a musician who enjoys placing familiar repertoire somewhere unexpected. Working simultaneously as a classical and jazz pianist, he formed his trio in 2006 and uses it to move between tightly worked arrangements and spontaneous play. Baroque music remains a natural meeting place, since its bass patterns and sequences can change rhythm without losing their identity.
