It Takes Three
- Released
- 2021
- Label
- CDPCD
- Forces
- Piano, Trio
- Personnel
- Charl du Plessis piano, Werner Spies bass, Peter Auret drums
The title celebrates the piano, bass and drums line-up rather than one composer, and the trio uses that flexibility to move from Wagner and Mozart to Pärt and Piazzolla.
Pärt’s spare Für Alina sits at the opposite extreme from Rossini’s bustling aria, showing how widely the same three players can stretch without changing instrumentation.
