- Violaine Cochard harpsichord, Édouard Ferlet piano
After devoting their first album together to Bach, harpsichordist Violaine Cochard and jazz pianist Édouard Ferlet turned to dance. Plucked’N Dance ranges across countries and centuries, drawing on music by Bartók, Rameau, Purcell, Satie, Mussorgsky and others.
Ferlet wrote new pieces for the duo rather than straightforward transcriptions. Cochard and Ferlet improvise freely within them, and the contrast between their instruments remains central: the harpsichord’s crisp attack meets the greater weight and range of the piano.
Hear both
The classical side contains only the source pieces used on the album, in album order. The jazz side presents the complete album whenever a dependable copy can be embedded.
The classical player has seven videos for eight classical tracks: track 1 carries two recordings because it treats two works, while tracks 4 and 10 carry none because their sources are identified only as an eighteenth-century Italian dance and an anonymous thirteenth-century Turkish dance; tracks 7, 8 and 9 are Ferlet originals and fall outside the classical count.
