- Composer

- Released
- 2020
- Label
- Budapest Music Center
- Forces
- Piano, Saxophone
- Personnel
- Kristjan Randalu and David Liebman
Randalu’s arrangement keeps all five Promenades and lets each return in a different guise; the opening is relatively direct, but the later walks become sites for fresh improvisation.
Liebman’s soprano saxophone can sing through the Old Castle, turn the Unhatched Chicks physical and push the final Great Gate towards something both monumental and spare.
Hear both
The classical side contains only the source pieces used on the album, in album order. The jazz side presents the complete album whenever a dependable copy can be embedded.
One complete performance of Pictures at an Exhibition represents the album, which follows all sixteen movements of the piano original, including the fifth Promenade that Ravel’s orchestration cuts.
