- Michel Godard bass tuba and serpent, Danilo Rea piano
Michel Godard gives Puccini’s vocal lines to bass tuba and serpent, so the breath remains even when the words disappear. Danilo Rea’s piano leaves the melodies recognisable while opening space around them for improvisation.
The five arias sit beside four originals by the two musicians. The album’s own pieces were chosen for the lyrical quality they share with Puccini, rather than as interruptions to the opera music.
